This work originated in Danan Lake’s series of photographs depicting real locations that appeared to be fictional landscapes, printed at the dimensions of a paperback book. The depicted site—a spruce monoculture in Scotland with a forest floor blanketed by eerily uniform clover—felt uncanny to Lake in part because of its striking lack of biodiversity.
