This photograph was taken by Danan Lake in Argenta during the wildfire that threatened the community in the summer of 2024. The corrugated steel covering the building in the background was installed to prevent sparks from igniting it—a form of protective architectural ornamentation that has lingered in Lake’s mind. One of two works derived from this image, it was created while revisiting photographs from the fire as a way of processing the experience.
